Coaching
Coaching is a structured, goal-focused form of one-to-one support designed to help neurodivergent individuals think clearly, make decisions, and grow in ways that work for their brain.
Unlike mentoring - which often focuses on immediate issues through advice and problem-solving - coaching is about developing your own insight and direction. A neurodiversity-informed coach acts as a thought partner, helping you clarify goals, explore different perspectives, and design strategies that align with your strengths, values, and working style.
Coaching sessions focus on navigating complexity, building specific skills, and improving performance - without pressure to mask or “fit” a neurotypical mould.
What it is
Coaching is structured, one-to-one support that helps you think clearly, set goals, and make progress.
How it differs from mentoring:
-
Mentoring often focuses on what is happening right now, with practical guidance and problem-solving.
-
Coaching focuses on your goals and development. Your coach helps you explore options, test ideas, and choose next steps. It is a thought partnership, not a lecture.
At ASM, coaching is neuroinclusive and work-focused. We adapt the pace, structure, and tools to fit how you think and work, including for autistic people and people with ADHD, AuDHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia.
Who it’s for
Coaching can be a good fit if you:
-
Have a clear goal, such as preparing for a promotion, leading others, or changing direction.
-
Want to strengthen specific skills, such as decision-making, delegation, communication, or boundaries.
-
Are dealing with complexity at work and want space to think it through with someone objective.
-
Prefer a collaborative style where you develop your own solutions, with helpful structure and prompts.
-
Want work-focused development support (coaching is not therapy, and we will signpost if another route is a better fit).
What to expect
-
A clear start: a first session to agree what you want from coaching and what “better” looks like.
-
A steady structure: sessions are typically 60 minutes, usually online.
-
Action between sessions: you will usually leave with one or two agreed actions to test in real life.
-
Practical tools in clear language: only if helpful, and adapted to your style.
Coaching is usually self-contained between you and your coach. If you want help to share what helps you work best with your manager, your coach can help you plan what to say and practise the conversation.
“I've never had ADHD coaching and I was always doubtful, but I can genuinely say you have changed my life and the way I manage my condition for the better! I cannot thank you enough!”
