Starting a New Role

Beginning a new role is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming – new routines, new people, unwritten rules to figure out. This is especially true if you’re neurodivergent, as the ramp-up period might come with extra challenges (like adjusting to a new sensory environment or decoding a whole new set of workplace norms).

ASM offers “Starting a New Role” support to help you hit the ground running without burning out or masking your true self.

What it is

Mentoring or coaching focused on the first weeks of a new role. You get practical support to create structure, plan conversations, and set up ways of working that make the job manageable.

Who it’s for

A good fit if you want support with:

  • Getting clear on what is expected in the role

  • Creating routines that protect your time and energy

  • Meetings, communication, and early working relationships

  • Sensory or environmental needs (for example noise, lighting, constant video calls)

  • Deciding what to share about your needs at work, and how to ask for adjustments

  • Setting boundaries early so you can perform well and sustain it

What to expect

  • A clear plan for your first 2 to 12 weeks

  • Practical tools in clear language, tailored to your working style

  • Support to prepare questions, emails, and key conversations

  • Online sessions (usually 60 minutes) for ease and continuity

  • Check-ins around the moments that matter, such as first week, first feedback, first busy period

What often changes

  • Work feels clearer and more manageable

  • Fewer misunderstandings and less second-guessing

  • Better routines and boundaries from the start

  • A smoother path to the adjustments you need
