When did you join ASM?
I joined in 2020, while working as an Autism Support Worker for a charity in North London.

Tell us about your experience, lived and/or working?
I am a professional musician and HCPC registered Music Therapist and my journey into working within neurodiversity mentoring started as a Support Worker in 2020. In that role I learnt how to support, empower and advocate for my clients and their families (both adults and children). Group facilitation has always been a part of my professional life too, whether in music settings or running groups for neurodivergent individuals. I have always worked with a focus on wellbeing with a personal interest in Yoga and Mindfulness; interests that often influence my approach in this work. I have been freelance for the majority of my professional career and am a creative problem solver (you need to be when you are self-employed!).

What do you value most about your work?
I value the importance of offering a non-judgemental and supportive space for a client group who often have a difficult time trusting support organisations and practitioners. To be one of the people in a client's life that enables them to feel seen and advocated for is beyond the most rewarding part of the role. Bringing people together in group settings and facilitating connections and peer-support is my favourite part working as a neurodiversity mentor, hands down.

What are your areas of interest or expertise?
Over the years I have built up experience of working with ADHD and Autistic clients and I have an MA qualification in psychology and mental health (Music Therapy). My knowledge of mental health conditions and experience supporting clients comes in extremely beneficial in this role, and I believe that it is most important to go at the client's pace and provide a non-judgemental space. Across the years at ASM I have become confident in supporting clients in workplace situations, connecting managers, HR reps and my client to find a clear path to problem solving and finding effective workplace accommodations.

When you’re not working, how do you relax, have fun etc?
I practice yoga daily and enjoy pushing myself physically at the gym. I live by the beach, so I love a beach BBQs and sea swim too. I am an avid doggy borrower, and dog sit with my partner regularly. I go to gigs whenever I have a free weekend evening and love hosting friends for dinner.
